Updated New Pics Easy Kids German Chocolate Thumbprint Cookies

Good Morning dear readers,  Hit a snag Conor was adamant about not eating the tagine.  So, instead I will be sharing 3 recipes from my untried recipe binder.  It's been awhile since we pulled recipes from it. Here's the first one.  Conor found the cookie recipe and its from his heritage.  Gotta love him for that, he sure loves his heritage.  This is actually a fun recipe kids can make because they get to put their thumb print in it.  Who doesn't love to play with batter? So lets get to it.  The recipe came from the Sacramento Bee and I've altered it to fit my families tastes.

Ingredients you'll need:

Topping:
1 cup sugar
1 cup evaporated milk
1/2 cup (1 stick) margarine or butter softened.  I used margarine.
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 egg yolks beaten--I used medium sized eggs
1 1/2 flaked coconut

Cookie Batter:
1 box German Chocolate Cake Mix with pudding in it.
1/3 cup unsalted butter or margarine

While your mixing your batter and topping  preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

Using a 2 quart sauce pan combine sugar, milk,  1/2 cup margarine, vanilla and egg yolks.  Mixing it up until blended.  Heat on stove for 10-13 minutes until bubbly and thickened.  Then add in coconut stirring until mixed well.  Remove and let cool.

Your going to set aside 1 1/4 cups of this topping for later.

Take your mixing bowl and add cake mix and remaining margarine and the rest of the topping to the bowl.  Take your hand mixer and blend until moist.

Shape your dough into 1 inch balls and place on cookie sheet about 2 inches apart.  Here's the fun part make indentation in middle of cookie with your thumb don't press to hard.  Fill thumb print with 1/2 tsp of topping.

Place in center of oven for 10-14 minutes until edges are brown first batch always takes a little longer.  When done let cool in pan for 5 minutes then remove to plate. Bon Apetite

new journal page-exit stage north

Good Afternoon dear readers,  I dreamed of doorways and put one in my journal with the words exit stage north.  Because as you all know who read my blog trying to get to cooler climate i.e. Washington State.  I did this page with acrylics and oil pastels.  The collage was glued and then gessoed and then painted with oil pastels.  I also used paint pens to write the words and had leftover embellishments I put under the words.  The mountain scene was an old post card that was cut down and then outlined in paint pens and rubber stamps of a fish, flower and bubbles plus weirdly I had a stove stamp in the corner(playing with new recipes probably where that came from).  What is everyone favourite technique book would really love to know?

Murder Mystery Food--Apple Cider Donuts

Good Afternoon dear readers,  I promised murder mystery food would return and here you go.  The name of the book is "Sinister Sprinkles" and its by Jessica Beck.  Yes, its set in a Donut Shop in a small town.  The owner of the Donut Shop solves mysteries in her small town.  Filled with eccentric and likable characters and lots of yummy recipes which we will cook more then just the donut recipe today.  So check out the book you'll enjoy it I wont give away any secrets accept to say its a very good read.  The thing I noticed about the recipe is you definitely smell the apple cider and the cinnamon and it tastes incredible.  This could even be served for father's day so lets get to it. Here's what you'll need.

3/4 cup apple cider--I used sparkling cider by Martinelli's could not find regular apple cider
1 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup margarine, softened
2 eggs
1/2 cup buttermilk
4 cups all purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt

Heat apple cider in small sauce pan for about 10 minutes.  Set aside after heating up.  Proceed to cream margarine and sugar together(also add buttermilk) to mix.  Then add the eggs after beating in a tall glass with a fork.  Once the cider as cooled down pour into batter.  Next add the flour, baking powder, soda and the spices and salt.  Next blend the dry and wet together just mixing well.  Place dough on flour counter.  I used waxed paper on the counter makes for easier clean up.  Roll the dough out to 1/2 inch to 1/4 inch diameter.  Cut circles using the top of a small cup or if you have a ravioli cutter you can use that.  Fry your donuts at 370 degrees in an electric skillet until browned.  Place on paper towels and then dust with powdered sugar or do what Conor did and roll them in powdered sugar.  Serve warm with milk and read the book.

Teens Ready To Work Part II

Good Afternoon dear readers,  This is a follow up post to one I did last summer.  Last summers post was finding professional clothing for teens first job.  This post covers some other essentials for the job hunt.  This is close to home because my son kyle just graduated from high school and is looking for part time work before he goes to college.  These are probably no brainer tips but just something to think about when looking for work for the first time.

First off,  a really good haircut is a necessity.  Hair nicely combed and not odd colors.  Young men should be clean shaven or if have a beard nicely trimmed.  Young ladies nicely trimmed and combed.  If you wear make-up should be understated not garish and loud.  A good pair of nice dress shoes don't have to be high heeled for the ladies.  It would be best to try and find a pair in black and brown no open toed.  Young men should have a good belt in black and brown no baggy pants.  Young ladies I know its hot but believe me managers notice when you don't wear stockings-so wear stockings.  I know a lot of clothes are permanent press and don't need an iron but invest in one anyways you never know.
Second, a good portfolio or small briefcase to carry resumes and other essentials.  This gives a more professional look.  In that briefcase keep  notebook and pens.  Jobs notice if you don't bring your own pen to fill out applications.  A good stack of resumes on resume paper.  You can buy a pack at Wal-mart with envelopes included.
Third,  some really good books with examples of resumes and cover letters and most definitely have someone proof read your resumes before sending out.  Designate a separate email just for jobs and if they don't have a cell phone get them one so they don't miss any calls.  Also check those clothing banks,  I checked the local one this past week and I asked them about suits they were kept separate and you had to ask to get them.  I got two brand new suits for kyle's job hunt.  Hope this helps find those jobs good luck everyone.

Good Afternoon dear readers, I wanted to play with another birdhouse.  This time I put all kinds of mixed media on it.  I painted it with vanilla ice cream acrylic paint color and blue and purple acrylic paint.  Then one side I mod podged some paper on the back and then used acrylic paint pen and stenciled a flower on it.  I put washi tape on the base of the birdhouse then I duck taped the sides.  Then I glued on embellishments all over the birdhouse.  This was a real fun project the kids can even make one themselves. Here's the pics of the birdhouse enjoy.

Frankie the music critic

Good Morning dear readers,  before Conor went on his trip he was  playing with Frankie.  Conor can get Frankie to do anything.  We found out early on Frankie is a music critic.  If he doesn't like the music he lets you know immediately.  I have a connecting wall in my apartment that we can here our neighbors and my neighbors son plays guitar.  Frankie was sitting on the bed chillin listening to the music and I come in there and decide to turn on the radio.  Oh boy he was not happy, the tail was lashing and I got such a dirty look.  I'm like okay, okay I'll turn off the radio.  I personally like opera Frankie doesn't.  I had my opera CD on and Frankie walks into the bedroom and tail starts lashing and gives me a look of disgust and walks out. Luckily he and I both like Barbara Streisand and we watch the special on PBS yesterday.  Do your dogs or cats like music and do they let you know?
