Art Journaling-using oil pastels with collage

Good Evening dear readers,  We had a paint party going on over here today.  The boys were doing their own paint projects and I was working in my journal.  At first,  I wanted to go without thickening the pages but that didn't work out.  I ended up adding the phone books scraps to thicken it up.  I got to play with my oil pastels today.  I like the way it adds to the texture.  I picked up some more rubber stamps from thrift store and I'm loving what they do to the page.  The thrift store got  $1,000's of dollars in donations of craft supplies, so I will be visiting them often.  Who knows maybe they'll get dylusion spray ink, fun. I added collages and embellishments to the page and stamped words to make it.  It's my feeling of home. So here's the pictures and enjoy.  If you haven't checked out art journaling give a try.

Frankie's Corner-The Fastidious Feline

Good Morning dear readers, this is later then usual and I apologize playing catch up.  Have you ever noticed how much grooming a cat does everyday.  How they sit there and go over every body part meticulously.  They even clean between the toes.  Sometimes Frankie reminds me of how teenagers are always primping before they go out with there friends.  Do you ever help your cat with his grooming i.e. brush their fur?  I have even heard of people who brush their cats teeth.  Do you brush your cats teeth or do you let the vet do it at the annual teeth cleaning?  Just curious and here's the little nut grooming away.

New Frugal Craft-My Spring Wreath

Good Morning dear readers,  I realized I have not made a wreath since  Christmas.  I obtained a lot of supplies and even the wreath form several weeks ago from that great yard sale.  But I was looking for something a little different.  I live in an apartment which as you know most complexes will not let you paint and their walls are almost always white-mine is peach(yuck).  I wanted color some kind to brigthen  up these walls.  Well I was in wal-mart's craft and sewing section and low and behold I found it.  A beautiful roll of blue and white polka dot burlap ribbon this was perfect and not to expensive.  With all the deals I got, it probably cost about $5-$6 to make this wreath.  The burlap being the most expensive item around $3.  It took me about an hour to complete this project. Here's a list of items to make this type of wreath.

wreath form-$.25 at yard sale
snow cone tiles-$.10 each got these from thrift store but I did see some at Joanne's craft store
pink butterfly's-3/$1 at dollar tree
silk flower-$1 for a bunch at yard sale
burlap ribbon-$3? at wal-mart

I wrapped the wreath in the burlap and secured with pins.  Then used Elmer's glue all to place the butterfly's and snow cones on the wreath.  I let sit for a few minutes to hold the items in place.  Tucked the flower in the burlap and there you have a new wreath for spring or summer.  Enjoy the colors and Happy Spring.

New Art Journal Page using collage

Good Morning dear readers,  I finished another page in my journal.  I love doing this form of art, its so freeing.  I used alot of different mediums in this piece.  I prepped the page using gesso.  I painted it using acrylics and used a stencil.  The stencil didn't turn out to good.  I'm using a regular paint brush what does every use for acrylics on stencils plmk?  It looks like Frankie put his paws into it and attempted to help me paint trust me he's tried.  I took pages from a magazine and rubber stamped it and put collage pictures on the page from magazines.  My neighbor gave me card stock, so I rubber stamped it and then cut and glued it to the page and here's the finished product.

Here's the finished page.  For easy pinning

A Little Survey

Good Morning dear readers,  the boys are back in school this morning and I can get back to my routine.  I have a question to ask which I did a little survey of a group of ladies while I was in college and their answers where surprising.  Here's the question, after you have left a bad relationship where your partner was a real control freak or not what was the first thing you did to make yourself feel better.  It doesn't have to be major it could be a little thing.  Surprisely the women in the group CUT THEIR HAIR.  Out of about fifteen women 12 cut their hair.  I was one of the hair cutters plus I dyed it bright red.  So what have you done to make yourself feel better after a situation change in your life.  Would love to know.  Oh couple of the anwers were they went back to school.

Can you tell I was medical before I got sick?

Stress Free Art Journal Page

Good Evening dear readers,  I finished another page in my art journal and I love it.  This is such a fun and wonderful hobby.  You can do anything and it doesn't have to be perfect because it's your work of art. Here's how I created this page.  I had pre-prepped glued pages together.  I put gesso on my composition book page and then painted it with yellow acrylic paint.  I used a stencil with oil crayons. I glued the flower picture which came from a magazine and the angel which was from a card. Then I used studio g ink pad in blue with a flower stamp and stamped all over page.  Then I glued Stress Free to the middle of the page and there you have it.  Okay fellow art journalist what is the book you refer to most when researching tips and techniques?  Would love to hear about your favourite book.

Decorative Craft Storage Idea

Good Morning dear readers,  Yes I'm back had some issues with my hands and had to go see my doctor.  I have to be more careful and not spend a lot of time stressing my hands.  I finally finished my new craft storage tier.  This will keep my craft supplies close at hand and let Frankie have his shoe box back.  I've been seeing the tiers on pinterest using the pie pans and the glass candlesticks from dollar tree.  I wanted to make mine a Little different.  I found these little neat black metal candlesticks.  I got different shaped pie tins.  I painted the tins different colors when you live in an apartment you can't paint it.  So you want to surround yourself with color.  The metal pans were a little difficult to paint had to do two coats but I decided I wanted what I refer to has the Hippie Drippy Look  You can  make it anyway you want.  Then I glued the base of the candlesticks using crazy glue but decided wanted it more secure so also duck taped it with my favourite Eiffel Tower pattern.  The top of the candlestick was more flatter so held better to the bottom of the pie tins and I proceed to do each level with the glue.  Really easy and fun no strain on my hands.  You put your stamps or paints pretty much anything in it.

Save Mart Meat Shopping Trip and Tricks

Good Morning dear readers,  Tired of the soaring meat prices and not sure what to do?  A good way to save money besides using coupons is to shop when the items are on clearance.  Your asking me clearance on meat or better known as reduced for quick sale.  Find out from your meat counter person when they put out the reduced for quick sale meat and go early.  Be sure to stock up on what you can. Reduced meat is still good meat its just the store can't sell past a certain date.  This can be frozen and will keep for quite a while. Frugal Family Creamy Noodles

Good Morning dear readers,  This week we are doing a frugal family recipe.  If you have days where you go meatless this is the go to recipe.  These noodles can be served with bread and salad for a perfect dinner.  This is so easy the kids can cook it.  In fact Kyles cooked it for a school assignment.  I've even made it for a potluck dinner and everyone loved it.  Another good thing you can spice it up.  I've left out the hot stuff because the boys are not keen on it, but if you like hot you can add them.  So here's what you'll need. This recipe is another one from an old Taste of Home magazine and its been adapted to fit my family.

8 ounces uncooked spaghetti
1 tablespoon minced garlic
3 tablespoons butter
6 ounces cream cheese
3 tablespoons sour cream
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
4 1/2 teaspoons parsley
2 Tbs milk

here's the omitted ingredients
1/4 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
1/4 teaspoon white pepper

Cook spaghetti according to directions.  While that's cooking saute garlic in 1 tablespoon of butter until done.  Then add all the other spices and creams except parsley to the mix heat up do not let it boil.  Set aside when done.  Drain your noodles and add sauce to noodles mixing it all up.  Add your parsley and mix then serve with your side dishes. Note when I took the pictures forgot to add parsley until after photos.
